HEADS

Some heads are a spontaneous expression of admiration for the painter Chaïm Soutine. His expressive brushstroke and his striking portraits of ordinary people always enchant me. Other heads arose from more unconscious processes and thoughts that occupied me, or they simply came from my hands because it had to be that way.

The technique of casting in cement requires a somewhat compact, smooth modeling style without fragile details. Yet I can't resist large protruding ears, a slender neck, a curling lock of hair. It is precisely that delicate fragility in contrast to the rock-hard material that I find exciting.

"The visible world is a daily wonder, for those who have eyes and ears.."
